Rebuilding one of the most recognisable bass sounds ever recorded.
A quiet saw on top of a loud pulse two octaves down, shaped into a pluck by matching the filter and loudness envelopes. What actually makes it read as Thriller is the emphasis — that resonant peak is the whole character of the sound. Most of the session is spent fine-tuning decay and sustain against each other, which is where the difference between “close” and “right” lives.
